Ryuji, study, or the Palace? Choosing a day in Persona 5 Royal

Persona 5 Royal turns each open afternoon into a choice between concrete opportunities: study for Knowledge, see Ryuji Sakamoto, or spend time with Sojiro at Leblanc. Palace deadlines add pressure, while restricted evenings and Confidant requirements make a workable calendar more than a matter of filling empty slots.

Choose between Knowledge and a person

An open afternoon can offer progress in different forms. Studying builds Knowledge, while seeing Ryuji Sakamoto advances his Chariot Confidant when he is available and ready to meet. These choices answer different needs: Knowledge contributes to Joker’s social stats, and a Confidant meeting develops a particular relationship. If Ryuji’s invitation is available, taking it means giving up that afternoon’s study time; choosing the books means the meeting waits for another opening.

Sojiro at Café Leblanc makes the tradeoff feel more personal. You can spend time with him when his Confidant is available, or choose reading and other activities that support social growth. There is no single right answer for every day. Check who is actually available, whether they are ready to rank up, and which social-stat goals matter to your plans. Confidants have availability and readiness constraints, and some ranks also require social stats, so a meeting is not always an immediate rank increase.

A rainy afternoon near a Palace deadline

Imagine a rainy afternoon with an approaching Palace deadline. Ryuji is available and ready to meet, while studying is another option. Choose Ryuji and Joker gets time with a friend; choose study and Joker builds Knowledge instead. Either choice uses the same afternoon, so neither is a bonus action that can be squeezed in after the other. The tradeoff is especially clear if you have been waiting for Ryuji to be available, but still need to consider whether Joker’s stats are ready for other Confidant opportunities.

That afternoon also has to fit around Palace progress. Infiltration generally takes the after-school period, and clearing a Palace involves more than choosing a single convenient visit: the calling card and treasure steps need calendar space too. Mandatory story days can occupy time as well. If the deadline is close, spending the afternoon with Ryuji or on Knowledge may mean arranging the Palace work on another day. Leave enough room for the required steps rather than assuming every open-looking day can be spent socially.

Palace visits do not guarantee a free evening

The calendar divides the day into periods, but using the Metaverse affects what comes afterward. Early in the game, evenings after Metaverse visits are restricted, so a Palace run should not be treated as an afternoon activity followed by a normal free night. That matters when you compare it with a day spent at Leblanc or studying: the Palace can claim time beyond the infiltration period itself.

Kawakami’s abilities can later affect what Joker can do after Metaverse visits, changing how those evenings work. Until then, plan on the restriction instead of building a schedule around an evening that may not be available. Her abilities can make some days more flexible, but they do not remove the need to account for Palace deadlines, story events, and the time required for calling-card and treasure steps.

Read invitations and requirements before committing

Before using a slot, look at the invitations and activity options currently on offer. A Confidant can be unavailable that day or not ready to advance, while an activity such as studying remains a concrete way to work on Knowledge. Spending time with Sojiro at Leblanc may be appealing for the relationship itself; reading may suit a day when social growth is the priority. The game’s choices become easier to weigh when you know what each one actually advances, without trying to predict every future opportunity.

Think of the calendar as a sequence of commitments, not a perfect schedule to solve in advance. If a Palace deadline is near, reserve room for infiltration and the later calling-card and treasure steps. Use other afternoons for a ready Confidant such as Ryuji, time with Sojiro, or studying, depending on availability and Joker’s needs. This approach leaves room for mandatory story days and avoids assuming a particular rank requirement or reward. Each slot then has a clear purpose, even when another worthwhile option has to wait.
