Divine Dash, Lightning Strike, and a Hades build that can change

In Hades, Olympian boons reshape Zagreus’s Attack, Special, and Cast as offers arrive. Learn to match named effects such as Athena’s Divine Dash, Zeus’s Lightning Strike, and Aphrodite’s Heartbreak Strike to your weapon and the problems each chamber presents.

Coverage: Covers the run-based boon choice system, named Olympian boons, and the roles of Attack, Special, and Cast; no late-story outcomes.

Give your weapon’s Attack a clear role

When an Olympian offers a boon for Zagreus’s Attack, start with the weapon in your hands and how often you can land its basic strikes. A fast-hitting weapon can make repeated use of an Attack effect, so Zeus’s Lightning Strike can add chain-lightning to those hits. Aphrodite’s Heartbreak Strike instead applies Weak on Attack, helping blunt the threat of enemies you can reach. These are distinct jobs: Zeus spreads damage across connected foes, while Aphrodite softens enemies you are striking directly. Choose for the encounters and attack rhythm you expect to manage, rather than for a god’s name alone.

Core boons for the same slot usually replace one another instead of stacking as separate core effects. If Zeus’s Lightning Strike is already on Attack and Aphrodite offers Heartbreak Strike for that same slot, consider which effect better serves the run before accepting the replacement. Lightning Strike favors chain-lightning pressure; Heartbreak Strike favors applying Weak with your attacks. The choice is not a way to collect both Attack effects at once. Your Special and Cast remain separate slots, so those can still develop different roles as offers arrive.

Use Dash to stay safe while dealing damage

Athena’s Divine Dash gives Dash a Deflect effect. That makes the boon relevant to how you move through danger: a dash can help turn an enemy’s attack back while Zagreus repositions. It does a different job from an Attack boon such as Lightning Strike or Heartbreak Strike, because it belongs to Dash rather than replacing the Attack effect. If incoming attacks are making it hard to keep striking, Divine Dash can support a safer pattern of movement while your weapon handles offense.

A practical choice depends on the offer actually in front of you. Athena may not appear in a particular run, so keep using the Dash and Attack effects you do have rather than waiting for Divine Dash to complete a plan. If it is offered, weigh Deflect against the other available boon’s contribution to your current setup: Divine Dash supports defense during movement, while an Attack boon changes how your strikes affect enemies. No specific god or combination is guaranteed, and a useful run can still take shape around the choices available.

Build across slots as offers arrive

Treat Attack, Special, and Cast as separate tools that can cover different situations. For example, a run might use Lightning Strike on Attack for chain-lightning, while a Special or Cast boon develops another way to pressure enemies. The point is to notice what each action contributes, then fill a gap instead of collecting effects that ask you to play the same way. If enemies are often reaching you before you can attack comfortably, a defensive option such as Divine Dash may address that problem better than another offensive upgrade. If your attacks already feel manageable, a boon that adds pressure through another slot may broaden your choices.

Offers depend on the gods and circumstances of the run, so a build plan should guide decisions without becoming a shopping list. Suppose your Attack already carries Heartbreak Strike and you are offered a boon for a different slot: taking it can add a new tool while preserving the Attack effect. If the offer instead targets Attack with another core effect, accepting it usually means replacing Heartbreak Strike. That trade could make sense if the new effect better addresses the current challenge, but it changes the role of your Attack. Read the slot and effect before deciding, then adapt the plan to the actual offer.

Plan for the run, invest in the Mirror

A boon choice shapes this attempt, while Mirror improvements are persistent. That distinction matters when deciding what to expect after a return to the House of Hades: the Mirror can carry lasting improvements between runs, but a run’s Olympian boons are not all carried home. Do not treat a strong Attack effect or Divine Dash as a permanent upgrade. Instead, use the current set of boons to solve the next chambers, and let persistent Mirror improvements support later attempts independently.

As the run unfolds, check whether the actions you chose are doing the work you expected. With Lightning Strike on a fast-hitting weapon, look for chances to use Attack against groups so chain-lightning can matter. With Heartbreak Strike, keep in mind that its Weak effect comes from Attack; with Divine Dash, use movement as part of your defense. If a planned action is not fitting the situation, favor a later offer that helps with the problem you are actually facing. That is how Hades’s boon system stays practical: named effects change particular actions, and each choice responds to the run in progress.
