Genshin’s new Varka card turns Version 7.2 into a deckbuilding question

Version 7.2 adds Varka’s Character Card and several Action Cards to Genius Invokation. The update is a useful prompt to compare a card’s promise with the dice, turns and team roles a deck can actually support.

A new card is an invitation to test a plan

HoYoverse’s Version 7.2 update details, posted on November 4, 2026, add Varka and his Talent Card to Genius Invokation TCG, along with an invitation duel and guest challenges. The same notice lists new Action Cards that can be purchased from Prince at The Cat’s Tail. These are confirmed additions to the card game; the notice does not rank them or promise that a particular combination will outperform an established deck. [1]

That distinction makes the update a good deckbuilding prompt. A newly available Character Card can be exciting because its name is familiar from the adventure, but recognition alone does not tell you how it fits into a three-character team. The practical question is what role the card can fill alongside the other two characters, and what it asks the rest of the deck to provide. Treat Varka’s arrival as a reason to test a hypothesis, not as a reason to dismantle a working list before you know what you want from it.

Start with the team’s job, then inspect the card

Genius Invokation asks you to build around Character and Action Cards, then spend Elemental Dice to carry out actions. HoYoverse’s earlier TCG update notice describes the familiar release pattern: new Character Cards arrive with corresponding Talent Cards and invitations to duel, while new Action Cards become available through the card shop. That history helps separate the card’s acquisition path from the separate question of how to use it well. [2]

Before changing a deck, write one sentence about the job you want the new character to do. Is the plan to establish an elemental application, create a payoff for a teammate, or provide a dependable active character? Then read the current in-game card text and compare it with the rest of the team. This is especially useful when a Talent Card looks attractive: it may strengthen a specific plan, but it also occupies space that could otherwise support dice conversion, healing, equipment or a different tactical option.

Use a small test instead of a full rebuild

Imagine a deck that already has a clear opening and a reliable answer for the opponent’s active character. Add Varka by replacing one card whose job overlaps the new card’s apparent role, rather than swapping several pieces at once. In a few practice duels, record whether the new character’s actions fit the dice you commonly roll, whether the other characters can support the plan, and whether you can still respond when the opponent changes the active character. This worked example is a method for evaluating the deck, not a claim about Varka’s exact performance.

Change one variable at a time. If you alter the team, several Action Cards and the opening sequence together, a win or loss will not tell you which change mattered. A short test makes the result easier to interpret: keep the character trio fixed while trying a different support card, or keep the deck fixed while changing the order in which you deploy characters. The point is not to produce a competitive verdict from a handful of games; it is to find out whether the new card gives your own plan more useful choices.

Read the whole update as a menu, not a mandate

Version 7.2 also adds Action Cards and brings back The Forge Realm’s Temper with a challenge theme built around score and stage-specific rules. That is a different invitation from ordinary duels: a challenge stage may reward adapting to its conditions, while a constructed deck asks you to make a repeatable set of choices. The update notice lists both, but it does not say that the same deck or approach should serve every mode. [1]

A sensible first session is modest: collect the new cards through their stated routes, read their exact current text, and try one change in a familiar duel before judging the result. If Varka fills a gap, keep exploring that role. If the card asks for more dice or setup than your team can comfortably supply, save the experiment for another list. New content broadens the set of possible plans; it does not make every possible plan equally suitable for every player.
