Coverage: Premise and early character setup

Loyalty with a preferred outcome

Fenrich’s devotion to Valvatorez is unmistakable. The interesting question is how much room it leaves for Valvatorez to choose an outcome Fenrich does not like. A servant can be committed to a person and still committed to editing that person into an ideal ruler.

His confident explanations give Disgaea 4’s party a strategic voice. While other characters are arguing from appetite, grievance or a fantastic misunderstanding, Fenrich can make the next step sound inevitable. That assurance is useful, but it also asks to be questioned.

The master is the complication

Valvatorez’s promises are particularly inconvenient because Fenrich cannot dismiss them as simple incompetence. They are part of what makes his lord worth serving. Trying to steer around them risks removing the very quality his loyalty celebrates.

This makes their comedy stronger than a routine in which the clever subordinate rescues a foolish boss. Fenrich can understand a tactical situation and still misread the meaning Valvatorez gives it.

Follow the disagreement inside agreement

When Fenrich says a course of action serves his lord, ask which version of his lord he means: the person standing in front of him, or the figure he hopes to restore. The answer can change from one scene to the next.
